Born in the hills of Los Angeles and a family recipe in every sense of the word. Our
Black Hjerte Coffee Liqueur has always been 100% handmade and crafted in small
batches. We distill our own California corn vodka, and French press a wicked strong
brew using intense dark roasted beans. Our Black Hjerte is richly layered and
perfect over ice, or as a muse for exceptional mixed drinks.

THE DISTILLERY

Partners Nathan and Bryan have spent years in the Los Angeles music scene making records, touring and playing in bands together.

In 2001, they formed Beta Petrol; a music production company focusing on supervision, licensing, strategy and the creation of original music and sound for commercials, TV and film.

Around that time, Bryan and his wife Dayna began making a homemade coffee liqueur in their kitchen, handing it out to friends and family during holidays.

Receiving a mason jar with this ‘black gold’ became coveted amongst our local community. After years of requests, Tammy and Nathan posed the question: why don’t we bottle and sell this?

After years of brainstorming and planning, in 2017 they began the process of creating

Laurel Canyon Spirits. First, with Bryan’s original coffee liqueur, and next, Nathan worked with our Master Distiller to craft the vodka recipe, which upon launch won the Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits competition.

MASTER DISTILLER

 Ryan Sutherland, founder and Master Distiller for Sutherland Distilling Company in Livermore, CA has been crafting small batch, hand crafted spirits for over 10 years. With a focus on grain to glass distilling and emphasis on working with locally sourced ingredients, Ryan’s spirits have earned top honors at various international spirit competitions.

In 2017 Ryan began a partnership with Laurel Canyon Spirits, and together crafted the award winning White Hjerte Vodka, Black Hjerte Coffee Liqueur and Barrel Aged Black Hjerte Coffee Liqueur. Multiple other projects are in the works that combine the group creativity and craftsmanship, furthering the brand vision of Laurel Canyon Spirits.
