Oregano is a peppery plant used in Greek, Italian, Spanish, Mexican, and Tex-Mex cooking. It's used as a finishing spice while fresh, and as a base spice when dried.
Mexican oregano has significantly more volatile oil (primarily of thymol, carvacrol, and menthol). This makes a much stronger oregano. It has a stronger thyme and mint flavor than regular oregano. Other oreganos' citrus overtones are subdued here. Mexican is the way to go for a strong oregano taste in sauces and soups.
