With the Rainbow Peg Activity Set from Learning Resources your child can practice colours, numbers, shapes and hand-eye coordination while having fun!

The extra big pegs are easy to grasp and perfect for young little learners.

The double sided tactile mat is printed on one side to help practice numbers and shapes. Your child can also lace the pegs to practice a different way of patterning and creating shapes. This set has it all!!

Set Includes: 30 Pegs – 6 colours (red, blue, yellow, green, orange and purple), 2 – 36” laces, Reversible mat, Activity guide

Child Development:

Colours - The 6 different colours pegs give plenty of opportunity to learn colors! Your child can sort them into groups by colour. Line each colour up one by one on the pegboard. You can help by placing the first row of colours in so your child can match the colours you’ve set. Pushing the pegs in while saying the colour helps children use their muscles to help with memory and retention. Reinforce colours by asking your child to lace a slithering snake of purple pegs or make a tower using orange and blue. Or have each person choose a colour. Then place the pegs in a bag so you can’t see the colours. One by one take turns pulling out a peg. If the colour is a match to yours, place it in the mat. If not, toss it back in the bag and let the next person take a turn. The person who fills up her row first wins or play cooperatively and play continues until everyone finishes a row.

Numbers - Peg play is a great way to introduce your little one to early math skills. Simply count the pegs as you place them into the mat. Or create colour patterns like red, blue, red, blue. This is a premath skill that focuses on order and prediction. Count the pegs to see how high you can make a tower before they tumble. Or use the pegs as manipulatives to introduce addition and subtraction with objects you can feel.
 
Shapes - One side of the foam mat has 5 different shape outlines: circle, oval, triangle, square, trapezoid, and rectangle. Help your child identify the shapes while filling them in with different coloured pegs. This introduces the shapes to your child so when they learn about them in school, they already have had a little experience and are familiar with what they look like.
 
Motor Skills - Oversized hexagon-shaped pegs are tall and easy to grasp. This enables your child to practice using pincer grasp to pick up and place the pegs in the mat. Or using both hands cooperatively, hold a lace in one hand and a peg in the other to string them together. This activity can help your child develop a dominant side which is critical for cognitive learning and organization.
Fine Motor Fun - Your child can practice hand-eye coordination and strengthen fine motor skills when stacking the pegs on the mat or stringing the pegs on the laces.
