Profile: In Asian cultures, astragalus root has a long history of use. The herbaceous perennial is endemic to China, Mongolia, and North Korea, and belongs to the pea family. It is frequently mixed into herbal formulae and is traditionally regarded a Qi tonic in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our astragalus powder is made from Astragalus membranaceus roots that have been grown naturally. The powdered astragalus root is somewhat sweet and can be sprinkled on food or blended into smoothies.

In Chinese and Asian civilizations, astragalus has a long history of use. It is a traditional Chinese medicine component that is native to China, Mongolia, and North Korea (TCM). The herb was referenced in the Divine Husbandman's Classic of the Materia Medica, which was published anonymously in the first century AD and credited to the teachings of Shennong, a mythological character who lived around 5,000 years ago.

Astragalus boosts immunological health and the body's immune defenses, allowing you to feel your best and stay healthy. Astragalus is an adaptogen used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to assist boost energy and stress resistance.

Astragalus is a perennial herb that grows between 25 and 40 cm tall. It thrives in grassy areas and on mountaintops, where it gets lots of sun. The plants are generally harvested after four or five years when planted for cultivation, with the roots removed in the spring or fall. The roots are sun-dried before being cut for distribution. The slices are yellow in color and have a strong, fibrous texture with a sweet, moistening flavor.

Most TCM authorities advocate drinking a decoction of 9-15 grams (3 to 5 tablespoons) of the whole herb each day, which is created by boiling the powdered, dried root in water for a few minutes and then making the tea. It's also available as a pill or an extract. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, astragalus is used to treat a wide range of symptoms and functions. It has been shown to help the heart in healthy subjects and is widely appreciated for boosting good immunological function. Membranous milkvetch and huang qi are two more frequent names for this plant.
